Archaeo 3D

Task: The State Office for Archaeologoy Saxony is one of a few archaeologic institutions world wide that scans their findings instead of drawing them. So one by one a huge database with hundreds of thousands of 3D objects developed. Now these data shall be opened for the everyone on an own website. The target group are archeologists and interessted people.

Contributions: layout, color scheme, typographic concept, Icon design

Solution: Content is king. The unique aesthetic of the scans is the centerpiece of the design. The whole surrounding is very silent. We found out that Saxony has a special historical timeline which became the main control element of the site. All findings are placed chronologically on it.

Every time epoch got an own color to make the site easy to use. Important findings are tagged on the time line. On the bottom are different filter options.

The site is scrolls horizontal.

Clicking on an object opens the 3D viewer. Information about the object are placed leftside.

To make it easy to find specific objects fast, there is a search function in the top bar. The time line stays the control element. Below are the filters. The colors show the epoch.

There is a top ten with the most viewed objects of the month.
